Whose Who in China Retail

This is an interesting chart showing the scale of foreign owned supermarkets in China. The article claimed that both Walmart and Tesco have slowed growth as they have realized that location is very important and many of their stores opened in a hurry were not well placed. Interestingly Lotus is a partnership so Tesco own more than meets the eye, see below.

Established in 1998, Lotus is a joint venture of the Charoen Pokphand Group, one of Thailand's biggest conglomerates, and British giant supermarket chain Tesco.
